The Uganda Hockey Association (UHA) has named the travelling squad and delegates that will represent the country in the Targeted Assistant Program (TAP) Hockey 5’s East Africa Tournament that will be played on the 16th and 17th February 2019 in Nairobi.
According to the African Hockey Federation, along with the tournament, training programs will take place for coaches and officials from the East African region under the new three-year TAP project. The TAP project is scheduled to run from 2019 to 2021 and is a program jointly administered by the African Hockey Federation, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and the FIH Hockey Academy
The Ugandan delegation that will be led by Philip Wafula the UHA Secretary General comprises of 12 players both men and women, two coaches and match officials.
According to Vincent Kasasa the men’s team coach he is confident his side will take the title home regardless of the experience by their opponents. “I know the Kenyan lads are experienced having played in the Youth Olympics last year but we are ready to compete and give them a challenge, we expect nothing less than the trophy,” said Kasasa. “I have played against Kenyan sides and produced stellar results, they are great at fitness and skill,” added the tactician who won the Annual Magharibi Hockey Festival with Uganda Hockey Association national select team in 2018.
The delegation is expected to leave Kampala for Nairobi on Friday 15th February at 11a.m (E.A.T)
