Rough Patch for Blazers?

It has been a spectacular season for Blazers, formerly known as Telkom. The 22-time Kenya Hockey Union premier league women champions and 10-time Africa Cup of Club Champions title bearers have withdrawn their participation from the forthcoming Africa Cup for Club Champions Tournament. This was after seizing another qualifier to the Africa Cup of Club Champions for the year 2020. This year’s championship will be hosted at Ismailia, Egypt, from 1st -8th December.

Confirmation from the team manager, Jane Nyamongo, resulted in her stating, “Our team is pulling out of the ACCC Tournament due to financial constraints.”

Earlier, Blazers had confirmed their participation, leading to their being slotted in the fixtures that were released earlier last week. This is the first time that Blazers are missing the continental tournament, having successfully defended the title 10 times in the previous encounters.

The events leave Kenya’s slot in the ACCA blank. All focus is now on the 2020 event. The expectation is that Kenyan teams will better prepare towards ensuring their ability to fly the Kenyan hockey flag when the turn comes.
