Relegation Battle Persists as Premier Leagues Locked

It was a fruitless weekend for all the teams facing relegation from the KHU Men’s Premier League. The Nairobi Sikh Union lost 2-4 to Greensharks while Parklands Sports Club narrowly ceded 1-2 against Wazalendo. Strathmore Gladiators suffered a 4-0 thrashing from the Kenya Police team, diminishing their hopes of staying clear of the relegation zone. With two teams anticipated to leave the top-tier league in the next season, the results retain the deadlock another week. Only the remaining matches will determine the fate of the three teams.

With victories against diaspora teams over the weekend, Butali Warriors and Blazers have all but secured the top league cups. Blazers won 2-1 against Kisumu-based Lakers, the seeming bane of their existence. The teams previously had a 2-2 draw in their Kisumu encounter. Butali won 3-2 against the unpredictable Jaguars, with the latter rallying from 3-0 to very nearly toppling the giants. With 39 points, Butali is 6 points and 23 goals clear- with a match at hand- of the second-placed Wazalendo- guaranteeing first place.

Meanwhile, it is the Super League for JKUAT ladies after their most recent loss against Lakers on Saturday. The team will be leaving the league without having ever recorded a win, phenomenal in the history of losses.

The University of Nairobi Men drew against Wazalendo Youth 2-2 in the Men’s National League. MSC Ladies took home mixed results, losing to Leonas 1-0 on Saturday and winning against Nakuru on Sunday with the same margin.

As the league curtains almost fall, it is gradually taking shape. Only a few matches remain to close the fates that are yet undecided. We can only wish all the best to those still in contest.
