It has been a successful day for the Kenyan teams in the ongoing Targeted Assistant Program (TAP) East Africa Hockey 5’s tournament where Kenya is being represented by two teams each in the boys and girls categories at the City Park Stadium.
Kenyan girls Tausi and Mbuni opened the tournament in a face off that saw Mbuni beat their counterparts 2-1. In the boys category, the Kenyan boys Chui and Simba played to a 2-2 draw in the first boys match.
Kenya Simba went ahead to beat Uganda 7-3 while Kenya Chui beat Uganda 4-3. In the girls category, Kenya Mbuni beat Uganda 2-0 while Kenya Tausi drew 3-3 with Uganda.
Kenya Simba coach Mike Malungu was optimistic about his team’s performance. “We played well, drawing the first match against our teammates and a win against Uganda was a good result for the day and I give credit to the boys for the stellar performance,” said Malungu. “Tomorrow we come in for the second round which is the final round, I know we are the champions in waiting because the team is quite experienced having featured in top tournaments,” he added.
The second round of the tournament will be played tomorrow at the same venue.
