Is it a done deal?

As the Kenya Hockey Union men and women’s Premier Leagues showdown comes to an end this weekend, the grip is tightening and the teams are fastening their pace lining up thrilling last matches of the season. Thus far teams are seizing the positions while others are clinging to the spots they are bearing in the standings.

In the men’s Premier League, unbeaten Butali Warriors who are champions in waiting will be taking on Green Sharks as they seek to finish the season unbeaten. Second placed Wazalendo Hockey club will be taking on Kenya Police in a heated and much anticipated encounter, Kenya Police need nothing less than a win for them to dislodge Wazalendo from the second position on the league standings on the other hand, Wazalendo only need a draw for them to secure their second spot and earn a qualification for the Africa Cup for Club Champions.

Confident for the win

Speaking to Stanley Chege of Wazalendo, he expressed his confidence ahead of the encounter. “We are confident that we are going out there to win. It has not been a walk in the park but we have put our best foot forward and our hard work and resilience has bore fruit this season. It will be a tough match but so are we, ” said Chege.

In another interview with Kenya Police hit man Govan Mbeki, he was quick to note that they very much ready for the match and are optimistic they will get the second spot in the league. ” We have had quite a challenging season, our days have not been gracious but each day we have worked our best. This has not been the season that we hoped for but we are confident that this weekend we are taking the points home and getting the second position. It has not been easy and they won’t take it easy,” said Mbeki.

In the women’s Premier League, Amira Sailors who still have a match at hand will be seeking to get the third-place position as they take on Strathmore University on Saturday. Strathmore University are currently placed third with only one point ahead of their opponents.

Kisumu-based side Lakers will also be travelling to Nairobi for their final match against Amira Sailors on Sunday as the seek to finish their first Premier League season on a high.
