National hockey champions St Anthony face a tricky hurdle in their quest for a second successive title after they were paired against perennial rivals Musingu High School in the semifinals of the ongoing National school games. St Anthony, who were unsure of a spot in the semis, held high flying Upper Hill to a goalless draw on Thursday afternoon thus seizing the second position in Pool B. This was their second draw following their draw against Meru School and they will definitely have to do more against Musingu who have had a perfect start to the competition. Musingu started off with a comfortable 3-1 win against hosts Kangaru before blanking Shimo la Tewa 4-0. They were however denied maximum pool points by Kisumu Day on Thursday when the latter forced them to a 1-1 draw. Having scored just two minutes into the match, Kisumu Day looked set for the pole position in Pool A but a defensive lapse in the last quarter cost them the lead. A second place finish for the Lakeside champions reserved them a date with the daunting Upper Hill side, with the winner of the clash guaranteed a place in the finals. Thika, Kangaru fire blanks In other matches of the day, Thika finished their preliminary fixtures winless following a barren draw against Meru School. Shimo la Tewa and Kangaru also produced the same result in the other dead-rubber game.
