MMU confident of a top two finish

Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Super League men’s side Multimedia University (MMU) is confident for a top-two finish and a promotion place to the KHU Premier League ahead of their two matches against Impala and Kenyatta University (KU) on Saturday and Sunday respectively at the City Park Stadium.

Speaking to Moses Ademba the MMU captain, he believes the Premier League will be a reality to them after two seasons of playoff elimination and failing to get promoted to the Premier League. “This season has been a good one, we have been at our best and I know next season we will feature in the top tier league,” said Ademba.” We were targeting a top-two finish and I know we will achieve that, with only two matches to go we are confident we got this,” headded.

The students are currently second placed in the league standings one point behind league leaders Chase Sailors and with one match at hand. A win in their remaining matches puts them at the helm of the league standings and a first place finish in the 2018 KHU Super League.

In the KHU men’s National League, newcomers and second placed University of Eldoret will also be seeking to confirm their promotion to the Super League alongside Bungoma Famers Hockey Club as they take on University of Nairobi on Saturday.

In the KHU women’s Premier League, United States International University Africa (USIU-A) are also plotting to take down Amira in their last match and ensure a good finish in the league as they prepare to participate in the 2018 Africa Cup for Club Champions in December.

Grace Akumu the USIU-A captain believes it’s time for them to show the nation what they are capable of by finishing the season on a high. ”Representing the country means a lot as a team, it means you are atop team. In our last match against Amira we are targeting nothing less than a win because we want to finish the league as a top team,” said Akumu.

Lakers seeking promotion

In the women’s Super League, newcomers Lakers will be seeking a promotion spot to the women’s Premier League as they take on Mombasa Sports Club. The Kisumu-based side needs a win or a draw to displace Wolverines from second position in the league standings for them to join Kenyatta University in promotion to the top tier league.
