The Kenya Under 18 National hockey team will be participating in the 2018 summer youth Olympic games in Buenos Aires from October 7th to 18th and qualified after finishing third in the African Youth Games in July behind South Africa and Zambia respectively.
According to Mike Malungu who is the Team Manager, the team has trained well and he believes the team will come back home with gold. “This is a tournament and like any other team, we are going for the ultimate goal which is winning the championship,” said Malungu.
“Our main challenge is the playing ground, the surface we are using here is almost worn out compared to what we are going to use in Argentina so adjusting might be an issue but I know the players will do their best because we are leaving early enough,” added on Malungu.
Kenya has been seeded in pool B alongside world hockey powerhouses Australia and India, other teams in the pool are Bangladesh, Austria and Canada.
The team coached by Kevin Lugalia is expected to leave at 1a.m on October,2, 2018 and will be captained by Robinson Omutekete.
