Friday, April 19, 2019 marked the start of the three-day Kenya University Sports Association (KUSA) National championships held at Kenyatta University.
The match between Kisii University and Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) started with a lot of energy from both sides which was expected as it was the first match of the day for both teams.
MMUST however seemed to have been disoriented and on the low after missing a couple of goals that were at their disposal and this even worsened after Kisii got their first goal which turned out to be the lone goal of the match scored by Beatrice Muaka in thethird minute of the match.
In an interview with Muaka after the match, she was positive and very optimistic on the team’s performance and hoped for the best ahead.“We are unified and are seeking a unified direction, we hope for the best as we take on the next matches,” said Muaka.
University of Nairobi lethal striker Susan Oketch was at her best as they played Chuka University. The defending champions beat Chuka University 2-0 as Oketch scored the opening goal of the match in the 14th minute of the match went on to finish her brace six minutes later as UON won 2-0.
On the other hand, hosts Kenyatta University put up a spirited fight in their match against Kisii University. The match which began on a low with the players seeming rather tense, escalated at a rapid rate with Gaudensia Ochieng scoring the first goal in the 15th minute for Kenyatta University. The hosts however fought harder to finish the game with a solid 3-0 with the other two goals scored by Miriam Mwangi and Monica Kitui.
