Oranje Leonas midfielder Nina Doyle took advantage of the long hockey break to concentrate more on her athletics talent. She took part in the World Under 20 Athletics pre trials that were held at Nyayo Stadium this week.
The fast and nimble midfielder came second in both the 100m and 200m categories and qualified to represent Nairobi County in the inter-county competition. Nina, who is in her final year of high school is confident she will juggle both hockey and athletics if the women’s premier league was to return anytime soon.
“I can do ball handling at home. But I will be coming to City Park once in a while”
Oranje Leonas earned promotion to the Premier league after a spirited fight in the Super League that saw them come second to DFG Wolverines. The underdogs in the premier league had promised a season of cutthroat competition against the seasoned sides. They, however, lost their maiden premier league match to experienced Amira Sailors before the league was stopped due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
Oranje Leonas is a flagship project of the Nairobi Hockey Association Development program and its partners.
