John Kabuu’s lone goal in the 58th minute for United States International University Africa (USIU-A) against Green Sharks in their Kenya Hockey Union men’s Premier League match helped the students move to seventh position in the league stangings renewing their hopes to stay in the top flight league.
Before coming into the match, the students were relegation threatened only three positions above bottom placed Western Jaguars.
According to Tom Olal the USIU-A coach, it hasn’t been comfortable for the team after a top four finish in the past season and currently fighting for a position in the league.
“The win today helped us to move out of the relegation zone, we played well but lost alot of chances which we could have easily converted,” said Olal. “The boys have stepped up, when we realized we were not at a better position everyone took it upon themselves to ensure we remain in the Premier League,” added Olal.
In another men’s Premier League match, Kenya Police got a hard fought victory against a resilient Sikh Union Nairobi. It was all level until the law enforcers forged ahead late in the match to win with a lone goal.
Kenyatta University confirm promotion
In the women’s Super League, Kenyatta University confirmed their promotion to the women’s Premier League after beating Multimedia University with a lone goal from Monica Kitui early in the match.
The students are placed at the top of league standings with 25 points followed by newcomers Wolverines and Lakers both with 19 points with Lakers having one match to play.
