The slump to the bottom persisted for the Strathmore Gladiators in the KHU Men’s Premier league; as they recorded their fourth loss this season. The school-based side suffered a humiliating 7-0 defeat at the hands of an impressive Butali Warriors. The Gladiators were unable to contain the repeated raids against them; despite restructuring efforts and a goal keep change. With only a single draw and no win in five matches, the Strathmore side faces the very real threat of relegation come season’s end.
The Warriors have played three matches so far, recording wins in as many games. Sunday’s effort by the trio of Zack Aura, Frank Wanangwe, and George Mutira with their first touches on-pitch opened the dramatic flurry of goals. This was followed by the efforts from new signings Francis Kariuki with a brace, Ademba Shammah, and Kalvins Kanu, with Wakhura Constance and Mutira sealing the fate of the gladiators. The win puts the team at the top of the table.
Scare in the Village
Meanwhile, The Kenya Police Team survived a scare loss to self-proclaimed giant killers, Western Jaguars. The first quarter ended with the Jaguars leading 3-0 against society’s creme, threatening to send the visiting side back home with their heads down. However, in an impressive show, the police successfully recovered the three goals by the second quarter and managed to slot it 2 more towards a 5-3 climax to the match. Needless to say, future teams visiting the Jaguars will demonstrate more caution against the now third-placed team.
It is a promising weekend up ahead both in the Men and Women’s Premier League. Butali Warriors hope for a repeat performance against USIU men on Saturday, while Police confront the Greensharks in Sunday’s closing match. The Amira Sailors play against USIU Spartans on Saturday.
Have yourself a bountiful week.
