Strathmore University’s evergreen forward Festus Onyango was at his best as he hit three to help his side beat Parklands Sports Club 4-1 in their Kenya Hockey Union men’s Premier League match at the City Park stadium today.
The students started off well in the first quarter as Mathew Kipchirchir netted in the opener in the sixth minute, Onyango doubledup the scores two minutes later past Farhad Shire the Parklands shotstopper.
Parklands could have gotten to the lead early in the second quarter but the attacking duo of Victor Mwashi and Allan Odongo failed to combine efforts well to beat the students backline.
Onyango put a brace to his name later on in the 44th minute and his third goal in the 50th minute mark. Parklands got their lone goal after Peter Galinga converted a well executed set piece.
According to Meshack Senge the Strathmore University coach, his players were perfect and applauded them for the nice performance. “The boys played well and utilized all their chances, they have stepped up meaning we are getting our concepts well,” said Senge. “We are getting closer to our secondary objective which is finishing at a top four position,” added Senge.
