Ugandans no match to free-scoring Kenyan girls in the first day of the FIH test series

The Ugandan women’s national team seemed to be a no-match side to the Kenyan women’s national team in the first day of the FIH/AfHF test series between Kenya and Uganda after the Kenyan girls scored 11 goals in the match that was played at the Sikh Union Club, Nairobi. Kenya went to the lead in the seventh minute of the match with Gilly Okumu netting the opener, Grace Bwire doubled up the scores two minutes later after a fine build-up play by the Kenyan girls. Bwire went ahead to complete her hatrick in the match with two other goals in the 44th and 49th minute. At such a time last year, the Kenya hockey scene was warming up to an exciting hockey season. The premier league was gearing up for explosive action. Newly promoted sides Mombasa Sports Club and Parkroad Badgers (men) rearing to challenge for their space at the very top. Tunza girls receive kit support

On 26th March 2020, Brigid Siantei came across a Facebook post by Tunza Founder Raquel Otieno. In the post, Raquel emphasized how sports bras improved the confidence of girls in Sports. "We have given out what he had but they are simply not enough." She posted. Raquel Otieno's post on Facebook Siantei, took up the initiative to support the girls with an additional 48 Sports bras. "I have however noted the girls need other items ranging from shoes,tights, wrap skirts, stockings et. al to make their sporting experience even more comfortable. USIU-A Directive Threatens League

In breaking news, a directive by USIU Africa threatens to subdue to the continuance of the KHU 2020 league. Published this morning, communication to the students and staff of the university alludes to the Coronavirus outbreak as the basis for a decision to withdraw from all sporting activities in the near future. The communique details the intention of the university to cease involvement in all sports tournaments within and outside the country. These include the local leagues and the intended tournament in Uganda early next month. Indications are that the university has already written to the union in this regard. Season 2020 kick off

It was all systems go as the 2020 Kenya Hockey Union season bullied off. The first match week started off with total entertainment. Saturday saw relegated Women Premier League side Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT Wildcats) fall to a promotion hungry side University of Nairobi by a goal to nil. Former Kenyan International and multi -Olympian Surjeet Singh Panesar also known as 'Sindhi' passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, in Nairobi. The Daystar University Hockey team is mourning the untimely death of their veteran and former player Dan Garang Nyacharo. Nyacharo featured for the Kenya Hockey Union men's National League side between 2009 to 2015 and served the Daystar hockey team with grit, passion and enthusiasm as a goalkeeper.
