The National School Games will for the next five years have adequate funds to facilitate their day-to-day activities after their sponsors, Brookside, renewed its sponsorship to a tune of Sh90million.
The milk-processing company revealed the good news on Wednesday April 4, 2018 at an event held in Nairobi where its Managing Director Oliver Mary disclosed that the funds will be channeled towards kitting of all participating teams and improving playing surfaces.
The new five-year deal sees an increment of Sh30million from the previous one which stood at Sh60million.
Date and venue
The finals of this year’s edition of the Brookside Term One National Secondary School Games are headed to Embu County (Eastern region) and will run from Monday 9th to Saturday 14th of this month. Some of the disciplines being contested are hockey, basketball, rugby 15s, swimming, handball and athletics.
The venues will however be different as rugby, hockey and basketball matches get underway at Kangaru Boys and Kangaru Girls while athletics go on at the Kigari Teachers Training College. Swimming will meanwhile be held at the Matendei Club.
The top two sides in each of these categories will in return book slots in the upcoming East African Games slated for Rwanda later in August.
To add on to that, Brookside has also partnered with Strathmore University in offering a total ten sports scholarships to elite players in both basketball and hockey. The eligible troupes will nonetheless have to also be productive academic-wise as a mean grade of A- and above will be required of them.
